About the Seminar
The Visjon2030 program is setup to contribute to poverty reduction in countries receiving development aid from Norway, with the explicit purpose of scaling up innovative solutions that promote achievements of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) in education and health. A total of 11 projects have been financed under the Visjon2030 program where four are financed by the Norwegian Research Council while seven have obtained financing from Innovation Norway. The formative dialogue research project is established in order to a) strengthen the implementation of the innovation projects; and b) develop theoretical understandings and establish the knowledge foundations of the Visjon2030 mechanism. Dialogue with and among the implementers of the innovation projects are essential to increase learning relevant for the success of the innovation projects. The formative dialogue research project creates a platform for experience sharing; discussion on implementation challenges and successes; and engages in debates surrounding development policies. This seminar is the first of a series of planned meetings during the life time of the innovation projects. The seminar takes up the theme “Sustainable Innovations: Drivers, dilemmas and goals” and aspires to achieve the objectives:
- Explore the mechanisms on how Visjon2030 program and its projects align in the broader SDG agenda
- Illuminate the challenges and risks associated with implementation of innovations - both in general and within the SDG context
- Discussion on key considerations about measurement of effects from the perspective of learning
- should also address: Support government, industry and academia for promoting and achieving the goals
Participants of the seminar may gain from:
- Increased learning on broader debates and dilemmas about global development agendas and policies
- Shared experience and joint reflections on project implementations including working with and anchoring of projects with local partners
- Networking with projects
The seminar includes presentations from speakers followed by plenary and group discussions. In anticipation of active discussions during the seminar, we encourage participants to reflect on the following questions/issues ahead of the meeting:
- 1. How do the broader SDGs drive the innovation process? The Agenda 2030 argues that social and environmental consideration must guide economic actions: how is this ideal reflected in the innovation process of your project?
- 2. What are the most important “mechanisms” (or institutions) for scaling up your project: the market, professions, the public administration (the state) or social movements/mobilizations? Or perhaps some combination of these?
- 3. What type of collaboration partner/ organization does your project rely on for local implementation and what possible challenges, barriers and possibilities does this imply for successful implementation?
- 4. Reflect on ways and mechanisms how your project improves local knowledge base in a way that makes local communities able to continue the innovation process (if feasible) - add: business models for sustainable growth
- 5. Reflections on measurement of social effects/impacts of innovation projects (Why, What, When and How?) - key performance indicators (KPI)
- 6. Views and perspectives on how to make the best out of the formative dialogue research project including upcoming dialogue seminars/meetings - add: thematic sorting, SDG contributions
