Abstract The course will provide an appropriate background in satellite communications and satellite broadcast engineering.
Objective (max 350 words) The course will provide an appropriate background in satellite communications and satellite broadcast engineering. The following topics will be covered: satellite systems, satellite technology, orbital mechanics, noise and interference, radio wave propagation, power link budgets, digital modulation, error control, multiple access and effects of non-linear transponders. End-to-end system performance and higher layer protocols for Internet applications are covered as well.

Learning outcomes

Give the basic principles in the most important parts within satellite communication and broadcast services. This includes radio transmission, modulation and access methods, satellite and earth station technology and finally system performance. The students will get insight in satellite systems and the dimensioning of such systems.
