How to run the Bella702 boat

  • The boat place is 3017 in Frognerkilen, meaning bridge 3, and place 17 (left side)
  • In case of emergency, call assistance at 02016
    • I (Josef) am member of NSSR, "total membership", which will guide you to the next harbour. Membership details are at the right side.
    • If you have time, call josef at 9083 8066 first
  • If the engine stops unexpectedly, prepare the anchor. Best to let the anchor hang out with approx. 20 m rope, such that it will "catch some rocks" before the boat hits them (hopefully).

Start the engine

  • put the red key into the lock underneath the bank back in the right side of the boat, turn it by 90 deg.
  • place the ignition key into the lock at the steering panel and turn right until the engine works (3-4 seconds should be enough).
    • if the engine does not start, check if the "diesel off" handlebar is pushed down (it is located at the right side of the boat)
    • otherwise, no idea...
  • start the Fish finder to get an idea of the depth - if less than 10 m the fish finder will provide a signal. Follow the surface. If you have less than 8 meters, reduce speed to 2000 RPM. If less than 4 meters, max speed 1500 RPM. If less than 2 meters, turn back
  • start the handheld GPS

Specific instructions for sailing the boat

  • Beware of rocks. They are often flagged with a pole having a sign at one side. Keep on the side of the sign.
  • Never go without either electronic map or printed map. Keep in areas with at least 10 m depth (even though the boat is only 0.6 m in depth)
  • The boat reacts quickly. If you are in doubt rather give the boat a "quick shot" back, and then wait to see for the reaction. It is always a good idea to either navigate very slowly (low speed) or with short, but intensive power circles. E.g. Sharp turn by steering wheel to right (or left), then one short full power (1 second), then power into "zero".
  • To bo backwards is a real problem (it never works out). Best: Turn handlebar completely to the right, then one complete turn back. Then you can slowly run backwards.
  • Put the navigation lights on (Third switch on the right side)
  • Take in the plastic protections.

Stop the engine

  • turn the ignition key into neutral
  • lift the black handlebar to interrupt Diesel flow until the engine stops. Then press the handlebar back into place.

How to attach to a bridge or an anchor place

  • drive slowly toward land
  • when you approach, one person jumps off the boat - the other person gives a short but intensive "run backwards" power.
  • ... to be extended

How to operate the handhold GPS

  • have two spare AA batteries with you
  • To switch on, press the power button, then 3-4 times the Enter button
  • You switch between the screens with ESC and NAV.
  • Zoom in, typical to 90 or 180 m to follow
  • To switch off, hold the power button pressed for 3-4 seconds (the GPS will automatically power down after 5 min without change of position)
