Components of the JBV demo

The following nodes are included in the demonstrator (the detailed specifications can be found in the attachment below):

Most probably we will have different partners' platforms from the main contributors to be demonstrated independently by covering partners' goals in this project!

  • Nano Node – GPS Module
    • A 20 channel USB SiRF Star III GPS receiver
  • Micro Node – Sun SPOT Sensor Platform
    • Integrated sensors in the platform: temperature sensor, accelerometer sensor, light sensor
    • Software: SUN SPOT JVM
  • Personal Node - VIA Embedded Board
    • VIA EPIA N700 is a compact, low heat, power-efficient Nano-ITX board
    • Software: the implementation uses Ubuntu Linux Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic and Java runtime environment (JRE) 1.6 for development.
  • M2M Platform - Telenor Shepherd® Platform
    • a platform (named as Shepherd®) for interoperability and integration that supports communication between connected devices (nano and micro nodes) and makes them accessible from anywhere at anytime
    • Software:
      • Connectivity support: HTTP API, Connected Object Operating System (COOS)

iPhone location is used to have a better idea of the location.

  • GPS location needs sky view, which is very limited inside the locomotive
  • added iPhone, which has inbuilt functionality based on WLAN, GSM network and GPS location
  • challenge: using physical events to harmonize positions and time stamps
  • Implementation overview:
