Deliverables in T2.2 Roll-out of Internet
Roll-out Equipment and Functionality
The overall objective of this task is to bring the roll-out to Phase A villages. As defined in DigI:TT2.1, we have standardised on Mikrotik equipment for the pilot.
- Internet Link (RBSXTR&R11e-LTE) - 3G/4G modem with directive antenna
https://mikrotik.com/product/sxt_lte_kit The modem, mounted on an external mast, can enhance the reception by 20-25 dB as compared to a pedestrian, and thus either achieve connectivity or 3-double capacity (European price € 90) - LNCC (RBD52G)
https://mikrotik.com/product/hap_ac2 a Dual-concurrent Access Point, that provides Wifi coverage for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies at the same time. Five 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports provide Gigabit connections for your wired devices, USB can be used for external storage or 4G/LTE modem, and device supports IPsec hardware acceleration. (European price € 50) - Sector Antenna (RB921GS-5HPacD-15s) - directive transmitter for point to multipoint distribution
https://mikrotik.com/product/RB921GS-5HPacD-15S is coupled to the village server to serve secondary reception sites (European prices € 95) - Point reception (RBSXTsq5nd) - doutdoor wireless device with an integrated antenna. Perfect for point to point links of up to 12 kilometers or as a CPE unit. It is compact, weatherproof and easy to mount.
https://mikrotik.com/product/RBSXTsq5nD (European price € 32) - Local Hot-Spot (RBwAPG-5HacT2HnD)
https://mikrotik.com/product/RBwAPG-5HacT2HnD a small weatherproof wireless access point. The device has one Gigabit Ethernet port, it supports 802.11a/b/g/n/ac wireless protocols and can work at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies simultaneously (European price € 58) - LNCC (RB960)
https://mikrotik.com/product/RB960PGS a five port Gigabit Ethernet router. The device has a USB 2.0 port and a SFP port for adding optical fiber connectivity. It also supports passive PoE input and passive or 802.3af/at PoE output. Ethernet ports 2-5 can power other PoE capable devices with the same voltage as applied to the unit. (European price € 57) - RB951
https://mikrotik.com/product/RB951G-2HnD a wireless SOHO Gigabit AP with a new generation Atheros CPU and more processing power. It has five Gigabit Ethernet ports, one USB 2.0 port and a high power 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n wireless AP with antennas built in. (European price € 32)
Note: the prices mentioned represented the market in Sep2018
Phase A Deployment
We have selected the 4 villages Izazi, Migoli, Selela and Esilalei for phase A deployment. The description here is superseeded with the description per village. 2 villages (Izazi and Mgoli) in Iringa districts are for HIV, TB and Cysticercosis (M04) -
1. DigI:Migoli
Has Vodacom 3G tower in the village, Latitude: -7.145672 | Longitude: 35.819636, Altitude: 717 meters
Three local hot-spots (including the health centre and the Nyerere school). Main spot is at the Nyerere School, connecting the computer room. Build on top of a 9 m mast, Internet Link and 2 sector antennas. To be done: 3 x 15m cable to connect, Embraco/Key to fix the sector antennas. 1 sector antenna pointing towards Migoli, and 1 sector antenna covering the school area
- Equipment includes:
- (1) Internet Link
- (1) LNCC (depends on the site map if it should cover 90 degree or 180 degree)
- (1) Sector Antenna
- (3) Point Reception
- (3) Local Hot-spot
2. DigI:Izazi
3G connection from Migoli tower (with Vodacom), Latitude: -7.23764 | Longitude: 35.720995, Altitude: 753 meter
We established a 6m mast at the governmental building.
One hot-spot. Request from Ndola to connect the dispensary. Plan, To be installed: 9 m mast at the dispensary - Reality: Established 12 m mast with sector antenna at the governmental building.
- Equipment includes:
- (1) Internet Link
- (1) LNCC
- addition: sector antenna, local receiver, 10 m electricity solar
3. DigI:Esilalei
Esilalei (Lat -3.46945, Long 35.97469) - received 3G Tigo coverage Jun2018
One hot-spot.
- Equipment includes:
- (1) Internet Link
- (1) LNCC
- (1) solar cell battery
- One hot-spot, receiving 3G Tigo through directive antenna connecting to the Tigo tower more than 20 km away. UMTS 900 MHz connection.
- Equipment includes:
- (1) Internet Link
- (1) LNCC
Phase B deployment
Phase B, the extension to other villages, is described in DigI:Villages
