We've done this on other sites. It's quite straight forward, but it does inevitably cause alignment and spill issues. I'll put it on and we can then assess the impact.
In the UK, the advice is to use the browser tools to provide this capability as most disabled people know how to use them rather than having to learn all the different methods the websites employ.
We also use a product called BrowseAloud. This gives spoken output as well as magnification and highlighting tools. You can see it running on one of our other sites: https://www.westberkssendiass.info click on the Orange A icon top right.
