Description In order to reinforce the safety in critical areas of traffic infrastructures, Trustable Warning systems are required to self-discover near vehicles, process relevant information about them and then broadcast the relevant warning information to vehicles in the vicinity. This building block provides the required business logic to allow the previous functionality and the V2I/I2V communications capabilities.

This building block will primarily be specified for the railway domain with re-usability for other domains.

Main output A self-contained early warning service to address safety deficiencies in critical areas. This will include the required business logic on the server side (ground infrastructure): CATWS (Critical Area Trustable Warning System) Server Application, and on the client side (vehicle): CATWS Client Application. This business logic will be integrated as part of WP20. This will also include the required V2I/I2V communication capabilities, Rail & Road Protocol and required modules.

Baseline Transportation vehicles are more and more communicating with their system environment (e.g., by means of V2I communications). Those technologies are suitable to be used for road-rail interactive use cases (e.g. level crossings) as well as for pure railway/road use cases (e.g. ontrack works zones). To show the potential of these technologies the associated required business logic is also developed within this building block.
Current TRL TRL 3 (For Rail) (In the Road Transport domain, the Vehicle2Vehicle communication standard is developed and components are commercially available. This TRL value is justified by analitic and laboratory studies (proofs of concept) that confirm the suitability of using these technologies for road-rail interactive use cases (e.g., level crossing) as well as for puere railway use cases (e.g. ontrack works zones)).
Target TRL TRL 7 (This TRL value will be achieved by developing a prototype that will be demonstrated in a real environment. The demonstration will include the interworking with operative systems such as the train TCMS (Traffic Control and Management System)).
