Description Trust Anchor: a (HW) trust anchor dedicated for smart sensors which can be seen as a starting point to establish trust in a WSN/WSSN. Shall be lightweight for smart sensors and strong for gateways/coordinators and of a (wireless) smart sensor network.

Trust Indicator: Used to monitor and evaluate the trust within a WSN/WSSN. Realizing the SCOTT Trust Indicator will require a distributed solution were the WSN nodes as well as the WSN coordinator (data sink) continuously monitor the trust within the WSN. The Trust Indicator shows the level of trust-worthiness of the wireless smart sensor network in the setup phase but also dynamically during operation.oordinator nodes.

Main output Mechanisms and concepts to build, monitor and evaluate trust within a embedded (and furthermore a cyber-physical) system. Definition of metrics and guidelines.
BB category Methodology (for SW/HW development), SW component
Baseline Trust in WSNs: The main goal of a typical WSN is to efficiently collect the sensor data and forward it highlight how the data exchange can be secured and malicious nodes can be detected 263 264 265.

Other approaches (e.g., 266) propose to use a centralized entity ensuring the trust (again mainly w.r.t. security) in a WSN and omitting different routing attacks such as blackhole and wormhole attacks 267. Besided security some approaches ensurng trust within a WSN also address energy-efficiency as well as network lifetime 268 269 or the network transmission range 270 as key aspects. Although security and especially data confidentiality are critical aspects of industrial WSN applications, also other aspects have to be addressed to ensure a trustworthy data collection. The concepts of the SCOTT Trust Anchor and Trust Indicator will help to build and monitor trust in a WSSN.

Current TRL 3, Trust Anchor and Trust Indicator principls exist but cannot directly be applied to WSNs/WSSNs
Target TRL 5-6, the benefits of using Trust Anchors and Trust Indicators will be demonstrated in a testbed as well as in a prototype vehicle
