Building and Controlling Communication Networks using IoT-devices |
---|
The course provides knowledge on how to build networks, based on radio characteristics, mobile and wireless systems, propagation characteristics. Hands-on experiences with radio communications are used to complement the theory. Likewise, a practical introduction to network monitoring and control is given, both from a theoretical point of view, and from a practical implementation. |

TEK5370 – Grid, Smartgrid and IoT |
---|
Course content
The course will provide an overview of the Nordic power Grid and its expected development. The starting point is the set of physical law that governs the power transfer in the grid. The course will also provide an overview of the organization of the grid, its control and dynamics. The grid is in a transitional phase, from centralized production of power, to a more varied structure including distributed power generation from renewable sources and storage. This presents a set of challenges that must be addressed with technology advances like smart grid and micro grids. The grid is likely to transition from centralized, closed control to a more dynamic and distributed control based on local sensors. This transition will materialize first in the distribution network where new sensors and smart meters offers opportunities for improved detailed and timely information on production, storage, and usage. The increased distributed control represents a challenge towards ensuring stability in the grid. |

Measurable Security for the Internet of Things |
---|
The course provides a methodology for measurable security, privacy, and dependability of industrial systems. Based on e.g. a smart grid example we will establish and develop the methodology to perform a multi-metrics analysis from components to sub-systems to systems. The course will allow you to compare security-related application goals with the results from the system analysis. |

Distributed Energy System and Security Infrastructure |
---|
DESSI is a new infrastructure for modelling, emulation, monitoring and controlling of the electrical grid. DESSI covers simulations, emulations and cybersecurity of power systems, ranging from micro-, macro- to regional energy systems. To counteract the climate crisis and stay below 1.5 deg C temperature increase requires a massive transitive from energy to electrical systems.
DESSI will develop the physical system and computational methods necessary to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of power systems with large-scale renewable generation, flexible loads, storage devices, power flow control and security of cyber-physical systems. DESSI will include physical components such as
Besides the physical & virtual infrastructure, DESSI will also connect 80-100 houses and report the energy consumption. The high-resolutions energy data are collected per fuse and every 10 s to create a research data-base as a basis for the energy transition in households. |

Non-discriminating Access for Digital Inclusion |
---|
The main objectives are supported through deployments and validation in Tanzania and DRC (Congo), focussing on the following sub-objectives:
Bridging the digital divide by providing the InfoInternet infrastructure and digital access. Provision of customised content for education and health purposes, thus creating the basis for jobs, as well as financial and social inclusion A cost-effective, open and scalable Wifi extension of the mobile network for the low-income group, enabling (mobile) operators to provide digital services Education, health and entrepreneurship for women and youth empowerment as representatives of the vulnerable society groups |

Security in IoT for Smart Grids |
---|
The vision of IoTSec - Security in IoT for Smart Grids is to promote the development of a safe and secure Internet-of-Things (IoT)-enabled smart power grid infrastructure. IoTSec addresses the basic needs for a reliable and efficient, uninterrupted power network with dynamic configuration and security properties. It addresses in addition the needs of businesses and end users of additional IoT services by exploring use cases for value-added services with the intent to design the building blocks for future services that consider the necessary security and privacy preconditions of successfully deployed large-scale services. IoTSec will apply the research in the envisaged Security Centre for Smart Grids, co-located with the Norwegian Centre of Excellence (NCE Smart). |
