Discussions on choosing a Case Study in IoTSec

We want a comprehensive case study where each partner can take some view and challenge. At the same time we could have the many smaller sub-cases, like look at EVs or distribution, or house devices, or human awareness, other relevant devices like batteries, etc. (Keep in mind that we are looking for 5 sub-case studies, and 2 new functionalities)

One alternative: SmartMeter at the core of our case study.

But we would include other devices that make the context in which SM operates, as well as the human and the social/business system.

We would want to see the SM in different forms and in different contexts.

For example,

  • we can see the SM as a single smart device with considerable computation power that collects info from other electricity consumers in a house
  • we see the SM as a "virtual" SM where the logic of the SM comes from collaborative computation from several devices, in the fog computing style.
  • we can see the SM as a simple device that only takes care of charging the EV

We can see the SM in different contexts:

  • in the house,
  • in a building
  • as part of a point-to-point node in a communications and energy distribution network
  • as interacting with humans

We can see SM in different security and privacy scenarios:

  • privacy for the little people, the house owner
  • privacy for the Industry companies.

Breach of this would result in industrial espionage, which the industry could see more serious, than the breach of privacy of the home owner (which the industry normally sees only as a business opportunity)

  • security for the house, which would incur individual loses
  • security breach at the level of the grid providers, which could incur more serious damages

Identify the interest of each partner/WP

WP1

Work in WP1 could investigate SLAs (Service Level Agreements) on the SM at various levels of technicality; SLAs for communication, for pricing, for negotiation, for privacy; distributed, abstract or implementable, etc --Cristian (talk) 11:03, 30 October 2015 (CET)
