Description Addressing of sensors and actuators in SCOTT in a non-trivial issue given the fact that different access networks may be used and sensors/actuators should be movable from one network to another. Existing limitations of current access networks (e.g. private IPv4 addresses, limited IPv6 availability, CGNAT in mobile networks, enterprise networks with tight security, non-IP networks) make it difficult to identify nodes. SCOTT nodes should be flexible to deal with these issues in order to be used in as many networks as possible.
Main output Analysis and definition of addressing proposal for SCOTT sensors/actuators and potential mobility management mechanisms based on requirements of SCOTT use cases.

Baseline Standardised addressing mechanisms on IP level by IETF, addressing approaches on other layers (PHY, MAC, application layer, ...). Mobility management solutions available in literature.
Current TRL 4

Currently, there are no clear standards or an industry-recommended approach laid out concerning addressing of IoT devices. It differs for every different vendor at the moment. Even though, those existing approaches have a high TRL on their own, they are incompatible to each other and prevent a communication between different IoT nodes.

Target TRL 6

The most appropriate addressing and mobility management approach will be verified in several SCOTT use cases.
