Objective The Internet of the Future has the goal ofThe Internet of the Future has the goal of including sensor information into decision making processes. This means that the input from sensor data and devices need to be integrated into a service platform. Such a service platform has different dimensions, and may cover aspects of communication, virtualization, security, access, service management, and business integration. However, state-of-art sensors, actuators and their corresponding networks are facing divergence rather than convergence. Heterogeneity of sensor nodes, routing protocols, and programming environments, operating platform and data models is the big hindrance of successful uptake of wireless sensor networks (WSN). Different standardization initiatives are going on to solve these heterogeneity issues. Telenor Objects Shepherd platform, an instance of ETSI TS102.690, provides the base line for integrating the sensor world with the service platform. However, the platform supports only few sensor nodes and actuators that limit its applicability in different domains with different sensor nodes. This work tries to establish an integration approach for various sensor platforms to enhance the Shepherd platform capabilities. The goal of this thesis is to incorporate sensors from one domain, here: the National Rail Authority, into a public accessible platform for machine to machine (M2M) communications.
