- In 1973 the Internet (arpanet) came to Kjeller, and thus connected Europe to the USA
- In 1973 Jon S von Tetzchner and Geir Ivarsøy started at Kjeller with the development of the mobile Web browser, leading in 1995 to the foundation of Opera Software.
- in 2013 we pilot together with Kjeller Innovasjon, UNIK, Nextelco and Opera Software the Basic Internet.
On 12Nov2013 from 1330-1530 we invite to the Wireless Networks and Security (WNaS) workshop at UNIK.
Goal of the Workshop
The workshop will provide details on the ongoing implementation of Free Web access at UNIK, and which opportunities this project has for UNIK, Kjeller, Lillestrøm and Norway.
Our vision of Free Web access includes
- everyone with a browser on his device should have access to information
- the amount of information will be limited to information pages containing of text and pictures
Such a free Web access will
- foster innovations - as for the first time all users will have access to the Internet
Opportunities for Kjeller
The implementation will have a huge potential for
- UNIK - we can become a driver for the the free Web building, education on communication, leading academia cooperation, and more...
- FFI - can contribute to a more secure world through information
- Kjeller - 40 years after Kjeller is again becoming the center of a real movement
- Kunnskapsbyen Lillestrøm - can have a visible window out to the world
- Norway - can contribute to gender balance by bringing education out to the world

- Q; Hvordan skal det teknisk gjøres å begrense til kun miniopera
- Når du åpne “opera mini” går den til en “range of IP addresses”. Opera Mini går ikke direkte til Internet, men til en proxy i Operas nett. Denne proxy (IP addressområdet) spør til Internet om web siden, filtrer alt ut (untatt text og bilder) og så sender den ned til mobilen. Disse Opera proxy godkjenner ikke noe annet enn en forespørsel til Internet.
- Q; hvordan er tjenesten tenkt implementert. I dag har vi bruker konto og guest/guest.
- Ja, og “guest/guest” er ja et åpen konto. Her må vi bare definere en “IP address range”, og alle som da åpne Opera Mini har fri tilgang - ved å bruke UNIK guest SSID. Så det er ingen forandring av dagens Infrastruktur, bare at vi slipper trafik til de IP adresser rett gjennom.
- Q;tilgjengelig informasjon om hvem og hvor mye som brukes av en slik tjeneste
- Jeg er mest interessert i “hvor mye traffikk”, ikke så mye hva folk se på. Fordi, som du sier, da er vi opp i etiske spørsmål. - Min interesse går ut at jeg vil se “hvor lite koster det å ha fri tilgang til informasjon”. - og da mener jeg text og bilder, ikke streaming, TV, video….
- Q; hvilken planer har vi videre?
- UNINETT hadde jeg tenkt på, men egentlig bare som fase 2 - og da som en utrylling med EDUROAM. Vil ikke åpne for mange byggeplasser samtidig.
