Factpage of Project Citi-Sense-MOB

Equipment used in project: Citi-Sense-MOB/Equipment

CITI-SENSE-MOB is partly funded by EMMIA: European Mobile and Mobility Industries Alliance

  • the total budget is 715 kEuro, out of which 500 kEuro are funded by EMMIA
  • project duration is 24 months

Main Goal//Hovedmål

Our main goal is to establish mobile air quality measurements. We will place mobile sensors on Ruter's busses and other vehicles. These sensors will then contribute to the global GEOSS earth observation program. We will also use the mobile phone to present information to the users, and will ask them for feedback and suggestions.

«Moving the control from fixed installations to mobile users will create the dynamics necessary for innovation. And innovation is our key business», says Reidun Gangdal, the project leader of CITI-SENSE-MOB and senior advisor at Kjeller Innovasjon.

7Feb2014; NRK TV was at Kjeller and took interviews with Nuria Castell Balaguer (NILU) and Josef Noll (UNIK), and prepared material for a publication for the TV news Dagsrevyen of the national broadcaster NRK. Special focus was on filming of the electrical bicycle, and calibration of mobile sensors in the labs of NILU.

27. September 2013: UNIK presents the first bicycle-based air-quality measurement system. The electrical bike from EVO bikes in Oslo is part of the international project CITI-SENSE-MOB, and will contribute with air quality measurements along routes of cyclists and pedestrians. «We started with the ambition of measure air quality on busses, and will have some busses from Ruter being equipped with the air quality measurement equipment», says Josef Noll, professor for mobile systems at UNIK. «But we were also asked to contribute with measurements there where cyclist and pedestrians walk, and that was the start of our bicycle-based air quality measurement".

Nuria Balaguer, who is the technical project leader, points out: «We have a very interesting project, and gets attractions all over the world.»
